Resident and Visitor Information -> Resident Council
Resident Council

The Resident Council, through its elected officers and interested resident participants, serves as the governing body for the Home’s residents. Lutheran Augustana Center wants its residents to have a say in the decisions that affect their daily lives. Residents enter the Home with a lifetime of skills and knowledge, each offering a unique contribution to the Council. Residents know how it feels to live here and by sharing their insights, suggestions and concerns, the Home can better meet the needs and interests of all residents.

The Resident Council provides:

  • A forum for Self Determination: residents who actively take part in the decision making process learn that their ideas and opinions are important.
  • A vehicle for Resolving Issues and Concerns: residents, in conjunction with staff, discuss, suggest and carry out solutions with accurate and timely information regarding their care and quality of life. This fosters meaningful communication between residents and staff while promoting a positive atmosphere for resolving issues and concerns.
  • Promoting a Sense of Community and Belonging: the resident council develops a sense of community among those who live and work at the Home. The sharing of experiences, ideas and concerns during Resident Council meetings leads to a better understanding of each other and greater tolerance for individual differences.

Inviting guest speakers and forming subcommittees provides a mechanism for residents to appreciate and get involved in the workings of the Home making the adjustment to Augustana much easier.

Giving residents as much control over their lives as possible is vitally important to residents’ physical and emotional well-being. Providing an opportunity to enhance their well-being is at the core of the Lutheran Augustana Center’s Resident Council.
