Volunteering

The rewards of volunteering are immeasurable…

Augustana believes that volunteers are not something extra, but an essential part of Augustana’s health care team. Our volunteers have a great sense of compassion, act on real concerns of the resident and promote a positive environment.

The volunteers’ involvement with residents and staff creates “special” healing powers. This “special” type of healing is not attributed to a treatment, a pill or a physician’s visit – it’s the type of healing attributed to a smile, a laugh or a touch coming straight from the heart.

Our volunteers are involved with residents in rehabilitation, therapeutic recreational activities, mealtime companions, religious services, visiting one-on-one, or serve as clerical assistants to Augustana staff.

If you are interested in making a difference, are required to do an internship or community service project, want to explore career opportunities or brush up on your skills consider us. We offer day, evening and weekend volunteering opportunities for adults and teens. To become a volunteer you must complete an application, health assessment and an orientation. Call the Volunteer Services office at 718-630-6136 to schedule an appointment.
